PRESIDENT TRUMP AND CORONAVIRUS

PRESIDENT TRUMP AND CORONAVIRUS

The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens

Even though I don’t agree with the President Trump on many issues, when I heard the news that the man who occupies the most important office in the land was struck by the coronavirus and hospitalized, I was saddened.

I wish no harm on anybody. As a physician, I always did my best to follow the bedrock principle of medicine: “First do no harm,” prevent diseases and tried my best to cure diseases and to save lives by any means possible. Over time, I became ProLife. I am against the death penalty and euthanasia. I believe that life is sacred and is a gift from God. Life is the most precious possession anybody could have.

I also believe that my very long professional carrier helped to make me a moral philosopher. I believe very strongly, in moral and ethical codes and principles that are necessary to create a just and caring society. I always took a high moral ground towards any event I have encountered in my life.

President Trump’s coronavirus infection morally became very difficult and concerning for me. I struggled, I didn’t know what to think and what to say. In one hand, his mendacious and reckless behavior towards coronavirus, his contempt for science, scientific advice and guidelines finally did him in. In addition, it also caused the death of over 225,000 of Americans and millions more grieving and broken hearted people. And it is getting worse instead of better.

From a moral perspective, one could easily say that since he brought it to himself, his family, the people around him and his countrymen, therefore he deserved what he got; he must pay a price. On the other hand, one of the basic moral principle is that life is sacred, no matter whose life it is. In time of harm or illness, every person deserves our well wishes, respect and compassionate care.

Yet, society at large has a legitimate right in seeing wrongdoers face the consequences of their behavior and actions.

Besides all the harm Mr. Trump has done to himself, his family, his country and the world, I believe  President Trump has a hidden gift and talent to shake up his country as well as the entire world’s rusting status quo of institutions and political systems, so that they can renew and reform themselves to create a better society and the world for all of us to live in.

The road to perfection never is a straight line. For all of these reasons, I wish him well and a speedy recovery. I believe he has served his term for more than enough. The best approach is to get rid of President Trump’s reign, and to vote him out in the upcoming elections.
