GENETIC COMPONENTS OF HUMAN BEHAVIORS AND SEXUALITY Part I

“Everything we do in our life, is not always due to our conscious decision and under our control.”

Every member of my family, including myself, has a tendency to be independent and liberal. We always vote for political candidates who demonstrate the same views and behaviors. As a family, we never had any training, schooling or discussions about being liberal and independent. It came to us naturally; thus it must be in our genes.

With my liberal and democratic leaning personality, when I look at the upcoming American PresidentialElection, I would definitely vote for a liberal Democratic Party’s candidate. I already know whom I am going to vote for but something about my choice is very bothersome for me. My choice is mayor Pete Buttigieg who is an openly gay man.

I do not believe in geriatric presidency. I will never vote for any candidate who passed the official retirement age. To me, voting for the President of the USA is also voting for the leader of the free world. Is presidency of the USA is less important than any other job for which an official retirement age is not required? Have you ever thought why official retirement age doesn’t apply to any other politicians?

We all know that old age causes some inevitable regressions in our intellectual, mental and physical abilities. That is why our president should not be an old man or woman.

I believe the presidency should always be about the future. A representative who is young, smart, well-educated, who is experienced in war and peace should take the helm of presidency, so that he or she can lead our nation and the world to the future, and tackles the problems the modern world is facing.

I kept wondering why my choice- such a young, smart, capable, well- educated man with war and administrative experiences, chooses to be a gay man? Is this really his choice or was it genetically determined for him? How is our sexual orientation determined? Why sometimes does sexual orientation and sexual pleasure not match external anatomical sexual organs?

While I was reflecting on these questions, I came across an interesting and timely article in National Geographic magazine, written by Dr. Bill Sullivan, entitled “why you like what you like.” It answered all my questions, with available scientific evidence, to my satisfaction. I also read a book about famous British Statesman Sir. Winston Churchillwho was secretly a gay man. He was once asked, “how can you run a country, you are a gay person?” His stunningly brilliant answer was,“I runthe country with my brain, not with my behind.”

Acquiring this knowledge and deliberate thinking completely changed my understanding about homosexuality. I believe in science. What is the scientific explanation of,” why are some people attracted to the same sex? ” The answer to this question will be discussed in the part II of this article.
