HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF? PART 6
DIETARY PATTERNS ARE CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE RATE MORTALITY
“Vital energy for life comes in from the mouth, but also goes out from the mouth.” ~ Turkish saying.
In a new study (English LK, et all. JAMA Netw Open 2021, August 12), researchers focused on broader dietary patterns encountered in real life situations by systemically reviewing 153 studies that involved 6 million participants from 28 countries.
The wide range of diets studied were characterized by macronutrient content and were correlated with all – cause mortality. Follow- up ranged between 4 – to – 25 years. The end point outcome included all causes of mortality rate.
Dietary patterns with high intake of red meat, processed meat, refined grains, added extra sugar and salt, high fat dairy products and saturated fats were associated with excess all – cause mortality. Conversely, dietary patterns characterized by high intake of nutrients rich foods like vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, tree nuts, lean white meat, olive oil as represented in Mediterranean diet or DASH (dietary approach to stop hypertension) were associated with lower all – cause mortality.
So, it is really up to you. If you want to live longer, change your dietary pattern, control your weight and exercise on a daily basis.
